Yearbook Staff Attend SCSU Workshop

S.A.
Yearbook advisors Ross James and Jay Blau took a group of Upper and Middle School students (Liliana Finn '26, Carsyn Whitman '27, Ryan Lane '28, and Ben Davidson '28) to an all-day workshop at Southern Connecticut State University organized by our school's yearbook company, Walsworth. Students attended workshops on photography and photojournalism in preparation for the year ahead. They also learned about the latest trends in the yearbook industry. Liliana Finn ‘26, shares her experience below.

The Southern Connecticut State University workshop was a valuable experience, not only in terms of acquiring new skills and techniques but also in gaining a deeper understanding of the yearbook business. We had the opportunity to learn from experts in the field, explore innovative design trends, and discuss the most effective ways to capture the essence of our school community through photojournalism. What's particularly exciting is that this workshop gave us a significant head start on our yearbook design and staff training process. Middle school staff members Ben and Ryan had the chance to learn the basics of our Walsworth yearbook software, which they have now been able to bring back to their class. Carsyn and I worked with a professional cover artist to develop preliminary concept art and hear from some of the Walsworth representatives about the new, exciting updates and tools added to the software. We're genuinely excited about the yearbook we're going to create; one that captures the visual highlights and encapsulates the events, friendships, and milestones that will make the 2023-2024 school year unique. As an editor, the yearbook is a labor of love and a testament to the community we're so proud to showcase and be a part of. We look forward to applying what we've learned and creating a yearbook that resonates with St. Luke’s.
